Urban Clean CEO and Founder Damien Boehm reflects on 2023, the year that was.
In September last year, Urban Clean’s Founder and CEO Damien Boehm released a book aptly titled “Clean up with Franchising.”
Inside, he shares the ingredients for building a successful business and provides a tool kit for budding entrepreneurs looking for inspiration.
He dedicates the book to “all the freedom-loving, free spirited entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs who are committed to making a positive difference to themselves, their families and the community they live and work in.”
As 2023 draws to a close, Damien shares with InProfile journalist Giulia Sirignani about the moments that made the year memorable. True to form, he doesn’t talk about his book or his successes, rather, about the achievements of others in the Urban Clean family.
2023 It’s A Wrap
Giulia: Reflecting on the year that was, what stands out as the 2023 highlights?
Damien: I want to start with Bali – the first post Covid conference Urban Clean has had. It was held from 2-4 November and the main takeaway for all of us was how our business is an asset to build. This idea really shaped the conference learning. We talked a lot about how building an engaged and performance driven team is critical to getting the best returns out of your business.
The other highlights for 2023 were undoubtedly the achievement of new income and the performance milestones reached by Regionals and Unit Franchisees. Some of our Regionals are netting 6 figure months which is a brilliant and well-deserved outcome.
Giulia: Complete this sentence, “In 2023, the biggest learning was….
Damien: “Relationships are everything in business. We committed time on a weekly basis to support our Regional partners individually and created a ‘success only together’ culture.”
Giulia: Can you give me some fun facts: As of the end of 2023 –
· How many Urban Franchises are there? 164 and we recruited 22 franchisees this year.
· Which state has the most franchises? Queensland LD with 76.
· How many cleans do you think you may have done? An estimated 156,000.
· Standout Stat? An estimated 6000 bins were emptied every night.
Giulia: What has you excited about 2024?
Damien: Global expansion. We are opening an office in Texas in February and expanding in U.S and internationally.
Sean Millar, originally from Liverpool in the U.K, has been growing his regional business across his adopted city of Perth in W.A. in a notable way. Sean has 24 franchises across his regions which employ at least 50 people. Sean is earning 5 times what he earned last year and given that success, he’s committed to investing and rolling out Urban Clean in his home city of Liverpool. We’re really excited about this development.
Giulia: What are your 3 main goals for Urban Clean in 2024?
Damien: In a nutshell they are:
· Establish offices and operations in UK, US and New Zealand.
· Expand our portfolio of services to create more profit opportunities for Regionals and Unit Franchises
· Expand training and support already given to Unit Franchises
